They will not only cause you delay in finding the right home based opportunity for yourself but will most probably make you loose money in foolish schemes. Sometimes the scams are worth a few dollars but then there are instances of work at home job scams that have resulted in people loosing hundreds and even thousands of dollars.

The thing is that people fall for work at home scams even when there easy enough ways to spot one. The No.1 rule of spotting a work at home scam is : “ If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”. Trust your gut instincts when they tell you that something is not right about the work at home opportunity.

Over time you will ralise that a pattern emerges that is the sign of home based job scam. you will ralise that the thousands of ads that you see regarding home based jobs are similar in the claims that they make and the pitch that they try to sell you.

Here are some ways to tell scams apart from real and genuine work at home opportunities.

1. The first unfailing test for detecting home based scam is to trust your own instincts. Use your common sense. Do not get played upon by lures of easy money and lots of it. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

2. There are no work at home jobs that let you make hundreds of dollars overnight without any qualifications and experience. These kinds of job do not exist. PERIOD. Frauds have gone a long way in to putting in believability in to the fact that it is possible to make this kind of money just by buying in to their secrets. They will have you believe that there is a magic way to do this and they have found it. Some will claim Data Entry jobs while others will make a vague claim about Google Jobs and Affiliate Marketing etc. The truth is that NONE of these will make you hundreds of dollars overnight. Any genuine work at home, be it data entry or affiliate marketing, takes lots of hard work and time to build.

3. Do not send money to unknown companies as start up costs. This does not make any sense either. A genuine employer wants to hire skilled people to be able to do the job. Avoid all those one page websites asking you to subscribe to their plan. There are other kinds of offers as well that ask you to send in money to join. Most of them are avoidable. Here are some of the common examples. While there seem to be new variants coming up all the time, they more or less tend to maintain the same tune of “ Send us the money and we will help you get more”. The catch is that you have to send them the money first. You are never getting to see any of yours back.

• Direct Sales or Multilevel Marketing (MLM)

• Pyramid Schemes – Always avoid!

• Business Start-Up Kits

• Anything Involving Cashing Checks/Wiring Money – Always avoid!

• Home Assembly/Envelope Stuffing – Always avoid!

• Becoming a Product Re-seller or Wholesaler

• Stock Trading Systems – Always avoid!

• Directories of Telecommuting Jobs or Businesses

• Taking Online Surveys

• Mystery Shopping

• Data Entry/Call Centers (Some are legit but, the lure of these jobs is used to sell bogus start-up kits and other scams.).

4. Avoid the opportunities that you come by as a result of paid advertisements on websites and search engines. Genuine work at home opportunities are usually available like other jobs are. On job search sites and specialized websites. No employer casts such a wide net as to be present on search engine results.

5. Do not believe the claim that you can find a home based job with out having a skill set. This is just not possible no matter what the job is. Even the simplest of telecommuting jobs will want to hire a person with a certain skill set. So all those generic job offers promising thousands of dollars with any qualifications are nonsense. Your skills matter no matter what they are so tap in to them and your experience if you have any and search for those particular job openings.

6. Always research and fish deeper in to any job opportunity. Do a search on search engine for the company concerned. Usually it is easy to tell a genuine employer from a scam one. A genuine employer has a genuine company, real physical address with a real and tangible product or service that they provide to consumers and businesses. Scams are just websites making an offer to make you hundreds of dollars where neither the physical office seems to be in existence nor is the end product or service that any legitimate business should provide. If it looks to be BS it probably is.

What Is a Job Bid Site

Help & Guidance

What are job bid sites? It is usually a good idea to have some credentials to back up your application. The going can be difficult for beginners as there will be people with more experience applying for the same job and they might beat you to it. You could try and fare better by charging a low rate for the job in the beginning. But you need to bring something to the table in terms of assurance of being able to do the job. If you do not have experience you can post samples of your work. For example, if you are a graphic designer, you can offer samples of your work for employers to have a look at.

How Does One Get Paid From a Freelance Work Website

The payment on a bidding site usually works on an escrow basis. The payment or partial payment is taken from the employer and kept by the bidding site. It is given to the person doing the job after he has completed the job to the satisfaction of the employer.

How to Find a Job Bid Website

In order to find job bidding websites use the search engine to search for the following terms:

Freelance work website, job bid site, online freelance jobs, freelance work exchange

Home Business Vs Telecommuting Job

Help & Guidance

This is comparison of the pros and cons of a having a telecommuting job as opposed to running your own home based business. The following are some qualities that are useful to imbibe in a work at home person. These qualities will help you combat the drawbacks of working at home more effectively.

The Ability to Multi-Task

So you are going to be working from home. Since you are at home there might be several things that require your attention. I mean, that is one of the reasons why you chose to work from home so that you could give time and attention to to other aspects of your family life. You will often need the ability to multitask to juggle your work and other responsibilities. But that is not the only reason why you will need to multitask. Since you are working in your home and not in an office, unless you hire an assistant, you will have to do several things yourself. if you had someone to take out printouts for your or take your calls in the office, these will have to be done by you.

The Ability To Separate and Delineate Work Boundaries

you are working at home. There are so many distractions which could include children, television, friends etc. At most times you will be able to work the best when you make separate boundaries for work time and place. Do not allow yourself to be disturbed during work hours and make sure that your family and friends also understand this. Of course the work schedule can be flexible also which is again one of the biggest reasons for choosing to work at home. Which brings us to the next quality of a work at home mom, Flexibility

Ability to Be Flexible

Since there are going to be many more factors in play when you are going to be working at home you might need to exercise a good deal of flexibility in order to handle work. If other responsibilities pull you away from work during the day or a weekday, you might have to be prepared to work late nights and weekends to finish the assignment.

Ability to Communicate Clearly

This quality works because since you are telecommuting most of the interactions might happen over the email and the phone. Since it is not face to face interaction, the ability to not only understand clearly but also to communicate clearly is required to ensure that everyone involved understands all aspects of the job.

Finding Home Based Work Online

Help & Guidance

Finding online home based jobs is most successful when focussing on a certain skill set. There are also no get rich schemes that will allow you to make money online in tunes of thousands of dollars. These are the things that work at home scams are made up of. However, you can find work at home opportunities online if you know to look in the right place and go about your search in the right manner. If you have never looked for work online, the beginning can seem intimidating. You may be unsure about how to look for home based work opportunities. However, with a little practice, patience and guidance you will soon be able to manage beautifully.

As mentioned before, if you are looking to work from home it is a good idea to target a certain skill set. If you have experience or qualification in any field then all the better. Almost all fields allow telecommuting in some areas. Even regular employees in many companies have the option of telecommuting every now and then. Thanks to the internet and the widespread usage of computer systems, finding something to do in any area of expertise that can be managed with the use of internet, computer and a telephone is a high possibility

Some of the popular searches that can be attributed to work at home jobs include home based nursing jobs. Now obviously the field jobs cannot be work at home jobs but other aspects of a nursing job such as case management and tele-operator can be home based jobs.

Home based jobs like nursing jobs, home based accounting jobs etc are very centric to professional skills and experience. However, some home based jobs like being a virtual call center executive may require little in terms of professional qualification but may ask that you prove your ability in the field. you may even be required to take certain courses and tests from the company that is planning to hire you to see if you qualify.

Then there are lots of freelance jobs available that can be managed from home. There are home based jobs like writing, graphic designing, web designing, art related work etc.

Some of these may or may not require professional qualification. But usually where professional qualification is not of paramount importance, experience in the field takes its place. For example, if you are a painter, you may not be required to have professional qualifications but will need to prove your abilities with your experience. The same may apply for a writer who is looking to bag freelance assignments to do at home.

At the end of the day, it is important to understand that you should not look for the kind of home based work opportunities that claim to earn you thousands of dollars overnight without requiring any prior experience or skills. These are home based scams. Stay far away from them. In stead, try focussing on your abilities, experience and interest and try to find a legitimate work at home job that you can be good at.

Some lines of work that you can find work at home in:

Accounting – Experience required ranges from bookkeeping and payroll to being a CPA.

Customer Service – Many require some prior call center experience, but some do not.

Data Entry – Online tests typically are often used to evaluate typing and data entry skills.

Writing – Opportunities include self-publishing, which requires very little experience and pays based on traffic to your articles, as well as jobs that require published writing samples before consideration.

Teaching – Most online teaching jobs require a bachelor’s degree at minimum. Many require advanced degrees. However, a few opportunities for adult ed online courses only require expertise in a given field.

Languages and Translation – Proficiency tests in languages are usually given. Previous translation experience is often required.

4 Drawbacks to Working from Home

Help & Guidance

Now that you have read about the advantages of working from home, it is time that you learnt about some the disadvantages of the adverse side of choosing to work from home. Most of these points are merely flip points what you read as the beneficial reasons to work from home.

Not all will be disadvantages to everyone and a lot will depend what your requirements from your own life and career are as well your temperament.

Balancing time with work and family

The most common problem that will arise can also be the easiest to take care of. Even though you are working from home, you will have to set boundaries between the time that you share with your family and kids and the work that you devote to your work. Even though you are at home the demands of your children and home requirements must be separated from the time given to your work. That is the only way to maintain productivity and keeping things sorted out. Kids should learn to appreciate the time that you are supposed to be working and you must set apart time for household work. The advantage here of course is that you can set the time schedule according to your own needs.

Missing the Office Atmosphere

Many people who work from home will miss the social atmosphere of the office. Meeting with colleagues, making friends and being a part of a work environment are all part and parcel of going to the office. Work from home means that you may miss all of those. Working from home means that you have to create your own work environment. You may have to be content with working in a solitary environment unless you have a home business and employ other people and also entertain clients and customers. Many people may find that working from home without the facilities and environment of a proper office reduces their productivity. Although this may be just a matter of time and may take some time getting accustomed to.

Career Vs. Family

Unfortunately, while telecommuting is allowed in many kinds of job profiles, full time telecommuting is not likely to be possible for top job positions. Everyone works from home once in a while but top job positions require presence in the office. They require presence for meetings, traveling etc. It is also possible that if you choose to telecommute full time you get passed over for promotions. Thats great. Its great for all the reasons that we are going to list below. If you can think of some more that are not listed here, please feel free to post your comments. We would love to hear from you as well why you love working from home. If you want to talk about the difficulties of working from home then you should read the next post and post your valuable comments and observations there.

Working from home is great because you can earn money from home.

Many women give up jobs because they have family needs such as when they have children. Starting to work from home is a great way to resume your work, your career and becoming more financially stable.

Balancing the need an income and career with the requirements of the family.

Everyone knows that handling the requirements of a family such as growing children ca be difficult to mange with both parents working and no help available. Working at home allows you to be close to your children, give them the time and attention they need, do whatever duties you need to by them during the day and still find time to work on your home based job or business.

Reduce work expenses.

You can reduce work expenses such as commuting, fuel expense, lunch and coffee expense etc. You even save on the wardrobe possibly. This does not mean that you work in your PJs when working from home all the time. It is important to maintain a professional touch to your work from home environment as well for better efficiency and to set a right example for your children if nothing else. But overall, it is quite possible that you will save money on work wardrobe as well. Think of any other expenses that are a direct result of working in a office such as possible childcare and you can possibly avoid those as well.

Avoid Office Dynamics.

This point actually works both ways. Some people would be glad to avoid the social atmosphere of the office because of office politics and interference, others would miss the social interactions, communications, inspiration and energy that an office atmosphere can provide.

Lead a More Personally Fulfilling Life

If time spent at home taking care of your home and family gives you real joy and peace, then working at home can bring about a sense of contentment for you. Not only are you satisfying the need to work, earn and be financially independent but you are also spending quality time with the family knowing that you are doing right by them as well.

Have Flexible Work Hours

A great reason for many people to contemplate working from home. There are days and there are times when you feel the need to be more in control of your own time. It can happen when you work from home. Depending upon the home based job or business that you undertake, you can set your own hours.

So much so for the advantages of working from home. Do not forget to read about the not so positive aspects of working from home in the next post in order to get a balanced perspective of the pros and cons of working from home.

Work-at-Home Nursing Jobs

Help & Guidance

Nursing jobs

Companies hiring work at home nurses and a few physicians.
